Designed for entry-level general industry workers, this in-depth program can be completed entirely online. This course is intended to provide individuals with a general awareness of hazards and how to recognize and prevent those hazards from occurring on a general industry site. Training emphasizes hazard identification, avoidance, control, and prevention. This online OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety course is provided for your individual use by AdvanceOnline Solutions and is intended to provide instruction on a variety of general industry safety and health standards.  

Note: OSHA recommends Outreach Training Program courses as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers. Workers must receive additional training, when required by OSHA standards, on the specific hazards of their job. 

Once you successfully complete the course and the required course survey, you receive: 

• A Certificate of Completion that you can immediately download and print. Per OSHA, the Certificate of Completion may be used to verify training prior to receiving your DOL OSHA Card. 
• Your DOL OSHA Card within two weeks. 
• One (1.0) Continuing Education Unit (CEU).

Audience

This OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety course is intended for entry-level general industry workers or anyone who needs a DOL OSHA-10 Hour Card to gain or maintain employment in the general industry. Examples include employees in healthcare, manufacturing, agriculture, cosmetology, automotive, warehousing, and distribution.  

The OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety course is specifically designed for the following professionals:

Learning Outcomes

The objectives of the OSHA 10-Hour Construction Online course are to serve as an orientation to occupational safety and health for workers covered by OSHA 29 CFR 1910.

After taking this course, you will be able to: 

• Explain the importance of OSHA in providing a safe and healthful workplace to workers covered by OSHA 
• Apply the OSHA regulations for walking and working surfaces to avoid slips, trips, and falls in the workplace, and recognize safe work practices for installing, maintaining, and using stairs, ladders, and scaffolds 
• Explain the OSHA requirements for exit routes and Emergency Action plans and describe OSHA requirements for Fire Prevention plans and portable fire extinguishers 
• Identify safe work practices around electricity, including understanding electrical terms, basic electrical safety principles, and regulations which pertain to electrical safety 
• Select a variety of PPE based on a workplace evaluation and the types of hazards, and take responsibility for correctly fitting, maintaining, and using personal protective equipment
• Identify the elements of the Hazard Communication Standard, identify physical and health hazards of chemicals included on a Hazardous Chemical Inventory, recognize the information required on Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and warning labels, as well as how they are used and maintained, and the meaning of pictograms, under the Globally Harmonized System (GHS), and identify training program requirements
• Identify bloodborne pathogens and common symptoms, and list engineering and work practice control measures that protect employees against exposure to bloodborne pathogens
• Identify a confined space, its hazards, requirements for confined spaces as listed under the Permit-Required Confined Spaces Standard, and duties and responsibilities of confined space workers
• Identify hazardous energy sources and use appropriate energy-isolating devices, and describe the procedures for conducting a lockout/tagout
• Recognize safe operating procedures for forklifts, workplace hazards, and how to handle special types of forklifts

Syllabus

This fully narrated course is built for success, and includes interactions, exercises, and quiz questions intended to help prepare students for the module exams. Students must answer each quiz question and complete each interaction in order to proceed.

Lesson exams are conducted after the completion of each lesson. Students are required to complete each exam after completing each lesson. This allows students to take the corresponding exam while the information is still fresh. 

Each exam consists of 10 questions randomly selected from a large pool of questions. A score of 70% or better is required to pass each exam. Participants are given 3 opportunities to pass the examinations and will receive immediate feedback.

Following the completion of all training content and achievement of passing scores on all exams, students will need to complete a brief evaluation and confirm his/her identity. After doing so, the student will have access to the course completion certificate.

Each student must fulfill the following requirements to earn a Certificate of Completion for the OSHA 10-Hour General Industry Safety course:

• Adhere to the Honor Code to complete the training yourself 
• Complete all required course laboratory exercises, you can save your progress as you go 
• Pass all lesson examinations and the final exam with a score of 70% or better. Participants are given 3 opportunities to pass the examinations and will receive immediate feedback. 
• Spend 10+ hours in the training course over a 2-day period. OSHA limits all OSHA Outreach Training (classroom and online) to a maximum of 7.5 hours training per day in all OSHA 10-Hour courses. As a result, all 10-Hour courses must be delivered over a minimum of two days.
• Complete all training within 6 months (180 days) of the course start date. 
• Only access the OSHA Outreach training within U.S. Jurisdiction. 
• Complete the course survey
